Year 1 (Y1) & Year 2 (Y2) · S1–S2
Build useful vocabulary, natural sentences and confidence explaining a familiar topic. Reading, oral rehearsal and short writing tasks give students a stronger base for school.
Build the Chinese to explain an idea, understand a text and join a conversation with confidence. We support Y1–Y4 school learning and preparation, then Y5–Y6 Chinese B at SL or HL, with online lessons arranged around the student’s needs.
Discuss IB Chinese B lessons →Y1–Y4 lessons follow the student’s school Chinese course and prepare the foundations for later language learning. The IB Diploma Chinese B course is the Y5–Y6 stage; we match SL or HL work to the subject the student takes.
Build useful vocabulary, natural sentences and confidence explaining a familiar topic. Reading, oral rehearsal and short writing tasks give students a stronger base for school.
Develop longer responses, recognise a text’s purpose and discuss more than one viewpoint. School assignments guide the pace and the Chinese B preparation the learner needs.
Focus on Chinese B SL or HL: purposeful writing, reading comprehension and individual oral preparation. At HL, literary discussion is shaped around the school’s selected works.
Language B develops an additional language through meaningful situations and cultural perspectives. Its five themes—identities, experiences, human ingenuity, social organisation and sharing the planet—give students a way to connect language with real ideas.
Choose a suitable text type and tone, organise the message and develop the point with detail. We work on the gap between having an idea and expressing it in clear Chinese.
Follow the main idea, use context to understand vocabulary and explain how details support a message. Practise selecting relevant evidence rather than copying large parts of a passage.
Use an image to develop a clear response connected to a course theme and cultural context. Practise explaining a view and responding naturally when the conversation moves on.
Discuss an extract from a studied literary work, then extend the conversation into ideas and themes. We develop understanding and flexible expression rather than a memorised script.
These school examples help families identify the Chinese B route. Earlier-year support follows each school’s own curriculum before the Diploma stage.
